Nurses…. they see us at the best of times and the worst of times.
They teach first-time mothers how to feed their babies. After accidents, they wipe away tears and clean wounds. They hold patient hands and administer life-saving drugs. Above all, they provide hope, guidance and comfort when we need it most.
Something positive that has come out of this horrible pandemic is the well-deserved spotlight on nurses and other medical professionals. They genuinely are real-life heroes.
I learned the virtues of nursing by watching my mother, who was an LPN for 30 years. It’s a grueling profession. 12-hour shifts and daily interactions that tug at your heartstrings.
Nevertheless, it’s also an incredibly rewarding career. My mother inspired me to follow in her footsteps. Don’t laugh... That’s me in the photo from nursing school back in 1990. Thank goodness they’ve done away with those hats! Before founding Naples Soap Company, I too worked as a hospital floor nurse, and in-home healthcare for 15 years.
It is with great pride that I share that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. My daughter represents our third generation in the medical field. I smile from ear-to-ear when I get the chance to talk about Kelsey, who graduated from medical school last year, and is now a resident at Stanford specializing in reconstructive plastic surgery. I am one super proud momma.
National Nurses Week: May 6-12 In honor of all the women and men who work in this field, my company donated 10% of online sales during National Nurses Week to the Lorenzo Walker Technical College in Naples, Florida. We were thrilled to present the school with a check for $3,553 to help provide tuition assistance for aspiring nurses.
I hope you all will join me in celebrating the nurses not just during National Nurses Week, but all year round. They truly are heroes.
